The Niners Chemnitz will also be represented on Europe's basketball stage in the upcoming season. As the BBL club announced, the team will compete in the EuroCup - and for the next five years.
What does this mean for the Niners Chemnitz?
The NINERS are one of 22 selected clubs that have been equipped with a long-term five-year license. This is a real milestone that gives us great planning security regarding participation in the international competition, and at the same time a reward for the hard work of the last months, said NINERS managing director Steffen Herhold.
Why is this important for the Niners Chemnitz?
An important aspect was likely the strong performance in the last season. The Saxons directly reached the round of 16 in their first participation in the EuroCup. When awarding the long-term license, not only the sporting part plays a role. Also considered are the economic and structural factors as well as the spectator interest and media reach.
What's next for the Niners Chemnitz?
In addition to the NINERS, the German clubs Ratiopharm Ulm, Rostock Seawolves, and SKYLINERS Frankfurt received planning security for the next five years. The EuroCup starts at the end of January, and the group stage draw takes place in mid-July in Barcelona.
