Kevin Yebo (30) leaves Niners Chemnitz after one and a half seasons and signs with Turkish club Safiport Erokspor – a transfer that shakes the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga.
What happened?
On July 8 2026 Yebo announced via Instagram that after a year on loan at CB 1939 Canarias and a successful EuroCup season with the Niners, he will join the mid‑table club Erokspor. The Turkish side, founded in 2022, was promoted to the Süper Lig in 2023 and finished its debut season in eighth place.
Why does it surprise Niners Chemnitz?
Yebo was still under contract with the Niners, who have a five‑year EuroCup commitment. In the last season he posted an average of 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game in the quarter‑finals against Real Madrid. Despite those numbers he moved to a club without a European trophy. He also previously played in Spain’s A‑League – the strongest league in Europe – where he helped eliminate Real Madrid.
What comes next?
Erokspor is preparing for the 2026/27 FIBA Europe Cup and has already added veterans like Errick McCollum (38, Galatasaray) and James Webb III (32, Unicaja Málaga). Coach Ufuk Sarica (54) will pair Yebo with Amadou Sow (27), who returns after a season at ASVEL Villeurbanne. Contract terms stay undisclosed, but the logistics sponsor’s backing hints at a lucrative deal.
What does this mean for the BBL?
Losing Yebo cuts the scoring firepower of Niners Chemnitz significantly. Without the 30‑year‑old wing, the team must redesign its offensive schemes and rely more on homegrown talent. At the same time, the move may encourage other BBL clubs to scout affordable overseas players to strengthen their rosters.
