Die Chancen für eine Niners-Teilnahme stehen nicht schlecht. Der zweithöchste europäische Wettbewerb soll erstmals von 20 auf 32 Mannschaften aufgestockt werden. Zu 100 Prozent sicher ist das noch nicht. Eine Entscheidung darüber soll voraussichtlich Ende der kommenden Woche fallen. Ein BBL-Team ist diesbezüglich vorgeprescht. Die Frankfurt Skyliners haben bereits eine Zusage für den EuroCup - und das sogar für drei Spielzeiten. Das teilten die Hessen am Dienstagabend auf ihrer Internetseite mit. Sportlich waren Skyliners sogar schlechter als die Niners: zwölf Siege in 34 Spielen, Platz 15. Anfang August startet Trainer Rodrigo Pastore mit seinen Jungs in die Vorbereitung. Bis dahin wird auch geklärt sein, ob die Sachsen in der Saison 2026/27 erneut auf internationalem Parkett präsent sein werden. Eine Teilnahme an der Basketball Champions League und am Europe Cup - beide Wettbewerbe werden von der FIBA organisiert - ist unwahrscheinlich. Niners-Pressesprecher Matthias Pattloch zu TAG24: "Darauf haben wir aufgrund unserer BBL-Platzierung kein sportliches Anwartschaftsrecht. Eine geringe Chance besteht trotzdem immer."

A decision will likely be made at the end of the next week. A BBL team has already made a move. The Frankfurt Skyliners have already secured a spot in the EuroCup - and that even for three seasons. They announced this on their website on Tuesday evening. The Skyliners were even worse than the Niners in terms of sports: 12 wins in 34 games, 15th place. At the beginning of August, coach Rodrigo Pastore will start the preparation with his team. By then, it will also be clear whether the Saxons will again present themselves on international courts in the 2026/27 season. A participation in the Basketball Champions League and the Europe Cup - both competitions are organized by the FIBA - is unlikely. Niners' press officer Matthias Pattloch to TAG24: "We do not have a sporting entitlement to participate due to our BBL placement. A small chance still exists."
